French

At Tweedmouth Middle School we are proud to have a specialist fluent French-speaking Head of Department. Pupils receive one lesson per week in Years 5 and 6, and two lessons in Years 7 and 8. We also offer enrichment in Year 8 where pupils are given taster sessions by a German teacher. We also offer a fantastic trip to Paris every two years.

By the end of Year 6 our pupils will have acquired an understanding of both spoken and written French, the confidence to speak in French with their peers and will appreciate how important other languages are as part of being a global citizen. In key stage 3 we will develop pupils’ ability to communicate confidently and coherently in spoken and written French, conveying what they want to say with increasing accuracy. Pupils will learn to express and develop thoughts and ideas fluently, and to listen to and understand spoken French. Our French curriculum gives pupils the opportunity to acquire new knowledge, skills and ways of thinking through the ability to understand and respond to a rich range of authentic spoken and written materials and through engagement with the online Linguascope programme. We will promote a love of language and strive for pupils to make outstanding progress at all levels. We recognise the importance of language and therefore aim to provide our pupils with  exciting opportunities in lessons, enrichment activities outside lessons and through engagement with local further education establishments.
